Legislative Priorities for the 83rd Legislative Session
HOUSING
- Protect homeowners from improper eminent domain
- Protect Texans’ investment in along border in colonias
- Ensure availability of affordable, safe, and sanitary housing
- End title confusion associated with contracts for deed
- Enable homebuyers to know what they owe on their mortgage
- Promote fair and reasonable landlord-tenant relationships
PROPERTY TAX FAIRNESS
- Make uniform delinquent property tax repayment plans available to all homeowners
- Prevent foreclosure when homeowner is current on a tax repayment plan
- Clarify that superlien status does not extend to property tax lenders’ fees and other non-tax charges
- Reduce need for predatory property tax loans
FAMILY AND SAFETY ISSUES
- Increase protections available to victims of sexual assault, stalking and family violence
- End prosecution of sexual assault victims if they choose not to pursue charges against their assailants
